C-Section Scar: When and How to Make It Unnoticeable

After a caesarean, a horizontal scar remains low on the abdomen. Over time it pales and flattens, but it does not disappear entirely: most often a pale line gives it away, and where the tissue is tight, a slightly drawn-in relief. The question of what to do about it usually arises once the body has recovered and you want the skin to look even again.

When to begin

There are two different timelines here, and it matters not to confuse them.

Camouflage is work with colour. It is done on a mature, fully formed scar, as a rule about a year after surgery.

Collagen therapy is work with structure. Where the relief is uneven, it can begin earlier, within the first year, while the scar is still forming: this gently guides it towards an even surface. So waiting out the year empty-handed is not always right — sometimes it is wiser to begin earlier, with the structure.

How it goes

If the relief is even, camouflage follows straight away: pigment is matched to the skin of the abdomen, and the line stops standing out. If the scar is drawn in, the structure is levelled first, then the colour is worked — relief is always stronger than colour.

Usually 2–3 sessions are needed, about two months apart. Healing goes through a darkening: for the first days the area looks darker, then the crusts come away on their own. The final result is assessed at 1.5–2 months.

Aftercare

For the first days the area is treated with chlorhexidine; showering resumes the next day, with cool water. Ten days without sauna, pool or steaming, and SPF 50 on the area without fail: fresh pigment is kept away from the sun. You receive the full guidance after the session.
